99 Names of Allah (Al Asma Ul Husna)
The first pillar of imaan (faith) in Islam is belief in Allah. As Muslims, we believe in Allah according to His good names and attributes. Allah has repeatedly uttered His names in the Holy Quran especially in order to understand who He is. Reading and remembering the words of Allah will help us to see the right way to believe in Him. There is nothing more sacred and blessed than understanding the words of Allah and living by them. How can we expect to serve, love, fear and trust in our Lord, Almighty Allah, if we do not know who He is?
Allah says in the Qur'an:
And Allah is the best of names, so ask Him for it (Quran 7: 180)
Allah - there is no god but He. Himself are very beautiful words. (Quran 20: 8)
He is Allah, the Creator, the Designer, the Fashion Maker; It has been Jesus' good name. (Quran 59:24)
Prophet Muhammad (ï·º) said, "Allah has nine and nine names, that is, one hundred removed from one, and whoever knows will go to Paradise."
(Sahih Bukhari 50: 894)
Abu Huraira reported to Allah’s Messenger (ï·º) saying: There are 99 names of Allah; the one who commits himself to memory will enter Paradise. Indeed, Allah is Odd (One, and a strange number) and He loves a strange number. ”
